Students

Clément Nevers

PhD student (2022 - present)

Mr. Clément Nevers graduated in Building Engineering from the Institut des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse, France in 2021. At the same time, he obtained a Master’s degree in Fluid Dynamics Energy and Transfer (DET) from the University of Toulouse III, France in 2022. Currently, he is pursuing his doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof. Dominique Derome, to understand the impact and role of trees in mitigating urban heat islands in different climatic contexts. To do this, he is relying on explicit modeling of all the physical phenomena of the urban microclimate by solving the equations of fluid mechanics using CFD.

Ibrahim Reda

PhD student (2022 - present)

Mr. Ibrahim Reda is a Ph.D. candidate in Building Engineering at Sherbrooke University. As a part of joint research between Concordia and Sherbrooke Universities, Reda’s doctoral studies center around the ventilation performance and indoor air quality of high-rise buildings using tracer gas techniques and numerical modeling. He is also an affiliated researcher with the Center for Zero Energy Building Studies at Concordia University. Reda’s research primarily focuses on optimizing ventilation systems in buildings. He graduated from Benha University (Egypt) with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2011. In 2017, Reda obtained his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University (Egypt).

Mohamed Sayed

PhD student (2023 - present)

Mr. Mohamed Sayed has been awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Benha University in Egypt since 2011. Further, he obtained his master’s degree in heat transfer from Cairo University in 2016. Now, he is doing his Ph.D. study on Model predictive control of heating and cooling systems in high-rise buildings to predict the cooling and heating loads and applying model predictive control strategies to reduce the energy consumption of the HVAC systems using simulation modeling and model predictive control strategies.

Kexin Zheng

PhD student (2023 - present)

Ms. Kexin Zheng has obtained her bachelor’s degree in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering at Hefei University of Technology in China. Following that, she completed her master studies in Energy Science and Engineering specializing in Energy-efficient Building Design at Technische Universitaet Darmstadt in Germany. She is now doing her Ph. D. under the supervision of Prof. Dahai Qi and Prof. Dominique Derome at UdeS, focusing on urban environment studies through numerical simulation and wind tunnel tests.

Ahmed Abdalreheem

PhD student (2024 - present)

Mr. Ahmed Abdalreheem has been awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Cairo University in Egypt since 2017. Further, he obtained his master’s degree in heat transfer from Ain Shams University in 2022. Now, he is doing his Ph. D. study on investigating the effectiveness of various measures that are followed to mitigate wildfire smoke impacts on indoor air quality using simulation modeling and field measurement techniques, which is supervised by Prof. Dahai Qi.

Camille Roy

Master student (2022 - present)

Camille graduated in wood engineering from Université Laval in Quebec City in 2011. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree to investigate the effects of Serpula Lacrymans on the hygrothermal behavior of wood-frame assemblies under the supervision of Prof. Dominique Derome and Prof. Caroline Frenette.

Yossr Chaabene

Master student (2022 - present)

Ms. Yossr Chaabene has been awarded her bachelor’s degree in energy engineering with a specialization in thermal fluid at the School of Engineering in Monastir, Tunis, in 2022. During her final year, she undertook an internship supervised by Prof. Dahai Qi, focusing on predicting thermal loads for tall buildings. Currently, she is enrolled in a master’s research program in civil engineering. Her research project delves into the thermal assessment of an innovative structure, investigating the impact of incorporating mining residues into concrete within an externally coated tube reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymers.

Daniel de Cotret

Master student (2023 - present)

Daniel de Cotret graduated in Building Engineering from Université de Sherbrooke in 2022. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree, focusing on the development of a building envelope damage assessment tool for flood events based on hygrothermal modelling and experimentations. His work is carried out under the supervision of Professors Dominique Derome and Marie-Amélie Boucher.

Nour Alaya

Master student (2024 - present)

Ms. Nour Alaya hold a bachelor’s degree in energy engineering specializing in thermal fluid from the National Engineering School of Monastir, Tunisia in 2022. She is currently enrolled in a master’s research program. Her research project aims to characterize the energy demand profile in computing centers to optimize thermal energy recovery under the supervision of Professor José Candanedo.
